Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 111
Verse 14 of 16

The Freedom the Name Brings

poorai satgur boojh bujhaa-ee.
The Perfect True Guru has imparted this understanding.
vin naavai mukat kinai na paa-ee.
Without the Name, no one attains liberation.
naamay naam milai vadi-aa-ee sahj rahai rang raataa hay. ||14||
Through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one is blessed with glorious greatness; he remains intuitively attuned to the Lord's Love. ||14||

In plain words

The perfect Guru gave me this understanding.

Freedom comes when you hold the Naam.

Through it comes a quiet greatness, and you rest, easy and natural, in love.

The Name brings a quiet kind of freedom.
The deeper layer

Vin naavai mukat kinai na paa-ee — freedom (mukat) comes through the Name. The vadi-aa-ee (greatness) is quiet and inner, and the resting is sahj — the natural ease of a soul attuned to love.

A Question to Sit With

What does freedom feel like to you?
