Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 112
Verse 13 of 16

The Busy Marketplace of the Body

garh kaa-i-aa andar baho hat baajaaraa.
In the fortress of the body there are many shops and bazaars;
tis vich naam hai at apaaraa.
within them is the Naam, the Name of the utterly infinite Lord.
gur kai sabad sadaa dar sohai ha-umai maar pachhaataa hay. ||13||
In His Court, one is embellished forever with the Word of the Guru's Shabad; he conquers egotism and realizes the Lord. ||13||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Your body is like a busy town full of shops and voices.

Somewhere in all that bustle lives the Naam, endless and priceless.

Find it through the Guru's Word, and your life grows beautiful, the loud self grown quiet at last.

The treasure sits right inside your own busy self.
The deeper layer

Garh kaa-i-aa andar baho hat baajaaraa — the body-fortress holds many shops and markets. Amid all that inner noise sits the naam... at apaaraa. The image says: you do not need to leave the marketplace; the treasure is right inside it.

A Question to Sit With

Amid all the noise of a day, how do you find a quiet moment?
