Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 115
Verse 14 of 16

The Unspoken Made a Song

bin sabdai tuDhuno ko-ee na jaanee.
Without the Shabad, no one knows You.
tuDh aapay kathee akath kahaanee.
You Yourself speak the Unspoken Speech.
aapay sabad sadaa gur daataa har naam jap sambaahaa hay. ||14||
You Yourself are the Shabad forever, the Guru, the Great Giver; chanting the Lord's Name, You bestow Your treasure. ||14||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Without the Word, no one can know You.

You Yourself speak what cannot be spoken.

You are the Word itself, the Guru, the great Giver, and through the Naam You pour out Your treasure.

The One beyond words makes itself known through the Word.
The deeper layer

Tudh aapay kathee akath kahaanee — You Yourself tell the untellable story. The infinite, which no words can hold, becomes knowable through the sabad — the Word is how the unspeakable speaks itself into a song we can share.

A Question to Sit With

How do you share a feeling that is almost too big for words?
