Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 115
Verse 6 of 16

The Lover of Devoted Hearts

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ॥
satgur sayveh say jan saachay.
Those humble beings who serve the True Guru are true.
ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਕਾਚਨਿ ਕਾਚੇ ॥
jo mar jameh kaachan kaachay.
The falsest of the false die, only to be reborn.
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
agam agochar vayparvaahaa bhagat vachhal athaahaa hay. ||6||
The inaccessible, unfathomable, self-sufficient, incomprehensible Lord is the Lover of His devotees. ||6||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those who serve the True Guru become true all the way through.

When we live only on the surface, we keep circling, never quite arriving.

The One, beyond reach and beyond measure, needing nothing, is still the tender Lover of every devoted heart.

The boundless One is still a tender lover of devoted hearts.
The deeper layer

Bhagat vachhal athaahaa — the fathomless One is the lover of devotees. Jo mar jameh kaachan kaachay — those who stay hollow keep going round, birth after birth, without arriving. And still the boundless One loves each devoted heart tenderly.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to be loved just as you are?
