Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 116
Verse 11 of 16

Sandalwood Fragrance in the Heart

sayvak sayveh sabad salaaheh.
His servants serve, and praise His Shabad.
sadaa rang raatay har gun gaavahi.
Imbued forever with the color of His Love, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
aapay bakhsay sabad milaa-ay parmal vaas man taahaa hay. ||11||
He Himself forgives, and unites them with the Shabad; the fragrance of sandalwood permeates their minds. ||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those who love the One serve gladly and sing out their thanks.

Coloured through with that love, they carry a sweetness about them, like the fragrance of sandalwood that spreads without even trying.

A heart full of love spreads sweetness the way sandalwood spreads its scent.
The deeper layer

Devotion overflows into song, and forgiveness unites. The sandalwood image shows how grace makes a life quietly fragrant to everyone nearby.

A Question to Sit With

Who do you know that brings a good feeling into a room just by being there?
