ਰਈਅਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੋਈ ॥
ra-ee-at raajay durmat do-ee.
Both the king and his subjects are involved in evil-mindedness and duality.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਏਕੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
bin satgur sayvay ayk na ho-ee.
Without serving the True Guru, they do not become one with the Lord.
ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਤਿਨਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
ayk Dhi-aa-in sadaa sukh paa-in nihchal raaj tinaahaa hay. ||3||
Those who meditate on the One Lord find eternal peace. Their power is eternal and unfailing. ||3||

Whether someone rules a kingdom or serves in it, the same forgetfulness can cloud any heart.
Without serving the True Guru, no one becomes one with the One.
Whoever turns quietly to the One finds a peace and a steadiness that never runs down.
A crown or no crown, the same peace is open to every heart.
King and subject stand level: status offers neither a shortcut nor a barrier. The same clouding troubles all alike, and the same peace is open to everyone.
