The Stubborn Robes That Do Not Please

manhath karam karay so chheejai.
Those who act stubborn-mindedly are destroyed.
bahutay bhaykh karay nahee bheejai.
Wearing all sorts of religious robes, they do not please the Lord.
bikhi-aa raatay dukh kamaaveh dukhay dukh samaa-idaa. ||11||
Tinged by corruption, they earn only pain; they are immersed in pain. ||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

A heart that only digs in and insists on its own way wears itself down.

Fine outfits and shows of holiness cannot stand in for a soft heart, and clinging to what harms only brings more ache, until a kinder path is chosen.

Insisting on your own way only wears your own heart down.
The deeper layer

Stubbornness is self-defeating, and outer religious robes without inner change do not please. The pain that follows is a consequence, and a heart can always turn from it.

A Question to Sit With

When has stubbornly insisting made a situation harder for you?
