Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 122
Verse 2 of 16

Whatever Unfolds, Unfolds

jo kichh karai so nihcha-o ho-ee.
Whatever He does, surely comes to pass.
tis bin daataa avar na ko-ee.
There is no other Giver, except for Him.
jis no naam daan karay so paa-ay gur sabdee maylaa-idaa. ||2||
Whoever the Lord blesses with His gift, obtains it. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He unites him with Himself. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whatever the flow of life brings about surely comes to be. There is one Giver, and no other beside.

When the gift of the Naam — keeping the One in mind — is placed in your hands, you receive it; and the Guru's Word is what carries you there.

There is one Giver, and the gift arrives when your hands are open.
The deeper layer

Nihchau means certainly, surely. The single-Giver theme runs through the whole shabad; the gift is Naam, delivered through the Guru's Shabad. It is received, never earned.

A Question to Sit With

When has something good come to you that you could not have made happen yourself?
