Ask Anyone Who Knows

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
bin satgur sayvay mukat na ho-ee.
Without serving the True Guru, no one finds liberation.
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
gi-aanee Dhi-aanee poochhahu ko-ee.
Go ask any spiritual teacher or meditator.
satgur sayvay tis milai vadi-aa-ee dar sachai sobhaa paa-idaa. ||14||
Whoever serves the True Guru is blessed with glorious greatness, and honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||14||

In plain words

Freedom comes through serving the True Guru — ask anyone who has walked deep into wisdom or stillness, and they will tell you the same.

Whoever serves the True Guru is lifted up and welcomed in the truest place of all.

The ones who have gone deepest all point the same way.
The deeper layer

Freedom comes through serving the Guru, and anyone wise will tell you so.

Bin satgur sayvay mukat na ho-ee — without serving the True Guru, no one becomes free. Gi-aanee dhi-aanee poochhahu ko-ee — go and ask anyone wise, or anyone who meditates deeply. A gi-aanee is a person of wisdom. A dhi-aanee is a person of deep stillness.

Think of asking every great coach how to get good at a sport. They all say the same thing: find a good teacher, and follow what they show you.

Dar sachai sobhaa paa-idaa — the one who serves the True Guru is honored at the True Court. Dar sachai means the home of the True One. There, that person is welcomed.

A Question to Sit With

Whose steadiness do you trust enough to ask for directions?
