Verse 15 of 16

Merchants of Truth

satgur no sayvay tis aap milaa-ay.
One who serves the True Guru, the Lord merges into Himself.
mamtaa kaat sach liv laa-ay.
Cutting away attachment, one lovingly focuses on the True Lord.
sadaa sach vanjahi vaapaaree naamo laahaa paa-idaa. ||15||
The merchants deal forever in Truth; they earn the profit of the Naam. ||15||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One draws close the person who serves the True Guru. Loosening the tight grip of clinging, I turn my love toward the True One.

Like traders who deal only in Truth, such people earn the profit of the Naam.

Deal in what lasts, and you will earn the one profit that cannot be lost.
The deeper layer

Mamta (possessive attachment) is cut, and love is fixed on the True. The merchant-of-Truth image returns: the profit (laahaa) is Naam, the one gain that does not wash off.

A Question to Sit With
