sabh naavhu upjai naavhu chheejai.
Everything wells up from the Naam, and through the Naam, perishes.
gur kirpaa tay man tan bheejai.
By Guru's Grace, the mind and body are pleased with the Naam.
rasnaa naam Dhi-aa-ay ras bheejai ras hee tay ras paa-idaa. ||7||
Meditating on the Naam, the tongue is drenched with the Lord's sublime essence. Through this essence, the Essence is obtained. ||7||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Everything springs out of the Name and returns to it again. By grace, my mind and body grow glad with it.
When my tongue speaks the Name, it is as if I taste something sweet — and that sweetness leads me to the deepest sweetness of all.
Everything rises from the Name and returns to it.
Naam is named as the source and the end of all (naavhu upjai, naavhu chheejai). The tongue drenched in ras (essence) is a sensory image: the sweetness of remembrance leading inward to the deepest sweetness.
A Question to Sit With
What is something that tastes sweet to you and points to something even deeper?
