ਹਉਮੈ ਗਣਤ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
ha-umai ganat gur sabad nivaaray.
Egotism and mental calculations are relieved through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
har jee-o hirdai rakhahu ur Dhaaray.
Keep the Dear Lord close, and enshrine Him in your heart.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
gur kai sabad sadaa saalaahay mil saachay sukh paa-idaa. ||8||
One who praises the Lord forever, through the Guru's Shabad, meets with the True Lord, and finds peace. ||8||

The Guru's Word quiets the me-first feeling and the endless scheming in my head. I hold the Beloved close and keep the One in my heart.
Whoever sings that praise through the Guru's Word, on and on, meets the True One and comes to rest.
Set down the endless calculating; nearness does what scheming cannot.
Haumai and ganat (endless calculation) are relieved by the Shabad. The remedy is not effort but nearness — keeping the Beloved close — and steady praise that ends in rest.
