From Maya, like a mother, came the three great strands that weave through everything. The old sacred songs were given to the world's first shaper.
Days and months and years were spun into being. Thought was breathed into the world.
The great play of the world was set up with care, down to the days and the dates.
It uses pictures from the old Indian stories called the Puranas. Maa-i-aa, like a mother, gave birth to the trai gun. These are three qualities woven through everything: dull and heavy, busy and restless, calm and bright. Then the chaaray bayd, the four Vedas, were given to Brahma. The Vedas are the oldest holy songs of India. Brahma is the one who shapes the world in those stories.
Years, months, days and dates were made, and understanding was breathed into the world. Think of a stage being set before a play: lights, scenery, a clock on the wall. The verse treats all of it with respect and wonder, as one grand design.
