ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Maaroo, Third Mehl:

nirankaar aakaar upaa-i-aa.
The Formless Lord created the universe of form.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥
maa-i-aa moh hukam banaa-i-aa.
By the Hukam of His Command, He created attachment to Maya.
ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥

The Creator Himself stages all the plays; hearing of the True Lord, enshrine Him in your mind. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One with no shape brought forth this whole world of shapes and colors. Within the flow of life, the pull of things — the attachment we call Maya — appeared too.

The Creator sets the whole play in motion, like a great show. So listen for the True One, and keep the One in your heart.

The whole world of forms is a play staged by the Formless One.
The deeper layer

The Formless (nirankaar) creates the world of form (aakaar); Maya-attachment arises within the Hukam; the Creator stages the whole khayl (play). How the world began is held with wonder here, not fear: the world is a wondrous show pointing back to its Maker.

A Question to Sit With

When you look at the world as a kind of show, what stands out as most wondrous?
