The Profit Worth Earning

har jee-o maylay aap milaa-ay.
The Dear Lord unites them in Union with Himself.
gur kai sabday aap gavaa-ay.
Through the Guru's Shabad, self-conceit is dispelled.
an-din sadaa har bhagtee raatay is jag meh laahaa paa-i-aa. ||4||
Those who remain attuned to devotional worship to the Lord, night and day, earn the profit in this world. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Beloved draws them into union. Through the Guru's Word, the swagger of me-first melts away.

Those who stay close in loving devotion, day and night, earn the one profit that matters, right here in this life.

The profit worth earning is earned here, now, in a life turned toward love.
The deeper layer

Self-conceit (aap) is dispelled through the Shabad. The profit (laahaa) is earned in this world (is jag meh) — a this-life reward, not a distant afterlife bargain. Devotion is the earning.

A Question to Sit With

What is something valuable you are building right now, in this ordinary life?
