O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, glorious greatness is obtained. Eradicating self-conceit, peace is found. ||16||2||24||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The True One is the Maker of all. The One alone ends life and gives life — there is no other at all.

Nanak says: through the Naam, greatness is found. Letting go of the self, I find peace.

Life and its ending both rest in the One's hands; there is no other.
The deeper layer

The True One is the Creator, and both ending life and giving it rest in the One's hands alone (aapay maar jeevaalay). No other power stands beside the One. Through the Naam comes greatness; letting go of self-conceit brings peace.

This closes Guru Amar Das's Maaroo Solhe on the same two notes the series keeps returning to: the Naam, and the quieting of the ego.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you trust that everything rests in the One's hands?
