Verse 15 of 16

Nearer Than You Think

sad hee nayrhai door na jaanhu.
He is always near at hand; He is never far away.
gur kai sabad najeek pachhaanhu.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, realize that He is very near.
bigsai kamal kiran pargaasai pargat kar daykhaa-i-aa. ||15||
Your heart-lotus shall blossom forth, and the ray of God's Divine Light shall illuminate your heart; He shall be revealed to You. ||15||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One is always close by — never far away at all. Through the word you come to feel just how near.

Then your heart opens like a lotus, a ray of the One's light fills it, and the One is shown to you.

The One is not far off; it is nearer than your own thoughts.
The deeper layer

Nayrhai hee — always near — corrects the sense of distance the ego builds. Through the Shabad we realize the nearness; the heart-lotus (hirdai kamal) blossoms, and a ray of Divine Light reveals the One. A luminous, hopeful image near the shabad's close.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you notice what is close by that you often overlook?
