Verse 14 of 15

Never Parted Again

ha-o balihaaree satgur pooray.
I am a sacrifice to the Perfect True Guru.
saran kay daatay bachan kay sooray.
He is the Giver of Sanctuary, the Heroic Warrior who keeps His Word.
aisaa parabh mili-aa sukh-daata vichhurh na kat hee jaasaa hay. ||14||
Such is the Lord God, the Giver of peace, whom I have met; He shall never leave me or go anywhere else. ||14||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I give myself gladly to the perfect Guru — the giver of shelter, the brave one who keeps every promise.

I have met the One who gives peace, and that One will never leave me or go anywhere else.

Meeting the One is a togetherness that no parting can break.
The deeper layer

vichhurh na kat hee jaasaa — never separated again — is the answer to the whole hymn's ache of parting. The Guru is saran kay daatay (giver of shelter) and bachan kay sooray (true to every word). The union met here is one that even parting cannot break.

A Question to Sit With

What is a bond in your life you hope never breaks?
