Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 138
Verse 7 of 16

Waking Up at Last

man tan arap Dharee har aagai.
I dedicate my mind and body, and place them in offering before the Lord.
janam janam kaa so-i-aa jaagai.
Asleep for countless lifetimes, I have awakened.
jis kaa saa so-ee partipaalak hat ti-aagee ha-umai hantnaa. ||7||
He, to whom I belong, is my cherisher and nurturer. I have killed and discarded my murderous self-conceit. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I lay my mind and my body down as a gift in front of the One.

Something in me that was asleep for the longest time is finally waking up.

The One I belong to cares for me, and I have thrown away the pride that was harming me.

Give your mind and body to the One, and what was asleep wakes up.
The deeper layer

'Haumai hantnaa', the harmful pride of the self, is thrown away, the way you put down something that has been hurting you. The long sleep ending is the emotional centre: what slept for lifetimes wakes up.

A Question to Sit With

When has something you long ignored suddenly become clear?
