Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 139
Verse 11 of 16

Only You Know Yourself

ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
keemat ko-ay na jaanai doojaa.
No one else knows His value.
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
aapay aap niranjan poojaa.
Only You Yourself, O Immaculate Lord, are equal to Yourself.
ਆਪਿ ਸੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਆਪਿ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਆਪਿ ਸਤਵੰਤਾ ਅਤਿ ਗਾੜਾ ॥੧੧॥
aap so gi-aanee aap Dhi-aanee aap satvantaa at gaarhaa. ||11||
You Yourself are the spiritual teacher, You Yourself are the One who meditates. You Yourself are the great and immense Being of Truth. ||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

No one on the outside can put a price on what You are.

Only You are equal to Yourself, pure and unstained.

You are the wise one and the one who sits in stillness; You are the great, deep Being of Truth.

Some things you cannot understand from outside; you can only enter them.
The deeper layer

'Aapay aap' (You alone equal Yourself) sets the One beyond comparison. The One is teacher, meditator, and 'satvantaa' (the ground of truth) all at once, an Ik Onkar collapse of every role into one.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you can only know by experiencing it, not describing it?
