Verse 4 of 16

Children at Play

too pitaa sabh baarik thaaray.
You are our father; we are all Your children.
ji-o khaylaaveh ti-o khaylanhaaray.
We play as You cause us to play.
ujharh maarag sabh tum hee keenaa chalai naahee ko vaypaarhaa. ||4||
The wilderness and the path are all made by You. No one can take the wrong path. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are our parent, and all of us are Your children.

We play in this world the way You set us up to play.

The rough ground and the smooth road were both laid down by You; no one can walk a way You did not make.

In a house this big, there is no room that is outside of home.
The deeper layer

Wilderness and path are both the One's making. 'Ujharh maarag sabh tum hee keenaa': the wild ground and the road alike were made by You. The parent-child image is the warmest frame in the hymn.
