Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Live out the Quran and the holy books inside your heart.

Keep your ten senses from wandering off toward what harms.

Tie up the five inner troublemakers with sincerity, kindness, and a contented heart, and you will be accepted.

A book only changes you once it moves from the shelf into your heart.
The deeper layer

Holy books do their work inside the heart. 'Quran, Kateb' (the Quran and the other scriptures) stand side by side, honored with respect. The 'panch marad' (five inner troublemakers) are bound with 'sidak, khair, sabooree' (sincerity, charity, contentment), not force.

A Question to Sit With

What is one teaching you would like to live, not just know?
