A Song That Keeps the Heart Well

rog sog dookh tis naahee.
Disease, sorrow and pain do not affect him;
saaDhsang har keertan gaahee.
he sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
aapnaa naam deh parabh pareetam sun baynantee khaalkaa. ||11||
Please bless me with Your Name, O my Beloved Lord God; please listen to my prayer, O Creator. ||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Sickness, sorrow, and pain lose their sting for such a heart.

It sings the One's praises in the Sangat.

Give me Your Naam too, dear One, and please hear this small prayer of mine, O Maker.

A song shared in the Sangat can carry a heart through hard days.
The deeper layer

The Naam as medicine: singing in the Sangat keeps the heart well through 'rog sog dookh' (illness, sorrow, pain). Then comes a simple, tender request: give me Your Naam.

A Question to Sit With

What song or words help you when you are not feeling well?
