Verse 9 of 16

Wherever I Look

jah daykhaa tah antarjaamee.
Wherever I look, there I see the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
nimakh na visrahu parabh mayray su-aamee.
I never forget God, my Lord and Master, even for an instant.
simar simar jeeveh tayray daasaa ban jal pooran thaalkaa. ||9||
Your slaves live by meditating, meditating in remembrance on the Lord; You are permeating the woods, the water and the land. ||9||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Wherever I turn my eyes, the One who knows every heart is already there.

I do not want to forget that closeness even for a single breath.

Those who love You come alive by remembering, and You fill the woods, the water, and the land.

The One is not hiding; it is in every direction you happen to look.
The deeper layer

The Inner-knower ('antarjaamee') pervades all; 'ban jal pooran thaalkaa' (filling forest, water, and earth) is the immanence keynote. Remembrance is framed as what makes the devotee 'jeeveh' (come alive).

A Question to Sit With

Where in nature do you feel a quiet presence most strongly?
