O Nanak, if one submits to the Hukam, the Command of the True Lord God, he is blessed with true glory and greatness.
ਸਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੨॥
sachay maahi samaavasee jis no nadar karay-i. ||2||
He is immersed and merged in the True Lord, who blesses him with His Glance of Grace. ||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In plain words
Do not spend your life at a doorway where you are always being measured and weighed.
Look instead for the True Guru, whose greatness has no equal.
In that shelter you are set free and no one keeps a ledger; Truth is planted in the heart, and body and mind become true together.
Nanak says: accept the Hukam of the True One, and true glory is given; the one blessed with grace merges in the True One.
Seek the doorway where you are welcomed, not the one where you are weighed.
The deeper layer
A shalok of the Third Mehl. The contrast is between a 'door' of endless accounting and the Guru's Sanctuary, where one is simply released. Living by the Hukam (the flow of existence) brings true honor. Grace, not audit, is the atmosphere of the true doorway.
A Question to Sit With
Where do you feel accepted rather than constantly judged?
