Know and enjoy the primal, eternal Love of the Great Lord and Master.

maathai oobhai jam maarsee naanak maylan naam. ||3||
Blessed with the Naam, O Nanak, you shall strike down the Messenger of Death, and push his face to the ground. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Know and enjoy the ancient, unbroken love of the Great One.

It was there before everything, and it holds steady through everything.

Nanak says: blessed with the Naam, even the fear of death loses its power over you.

A love older than everything is strong enough to quiet the fear of endings.
The deeper layer

A shalok of the First Mehl. The 'primal, eternal Love' is the love that was there before everything and outlasts everything. Held in that love and blessed with the Naam, a person finds the fear of death pressed flat and powerless.

A Question to Sit With

What is a love in your life that feels like it was always there?
