Verse 50 of 69

All That Happens Flows From His Will

mehlaa 3.
Third Mehl:
dukh lagaa bin sayvi-ai hukam mannay dukh jaa-ay.
Without serving the Lord, he suffers in pain; accepting the Hukam of God's Command, pain is gone.
aapay daataa sukhai daa aapay day-ay sajaa-ay.
He Himself is the Giver of peace; He Himself awards punishment.
naanak ayvai jaanee-ai sabh kichh tisai rajaa-ay. ||2||
O Nanak, know this well; all that happens is according to His Will. ||2||

In plain words

When a heart forgets to serve, it aches; when it flows with the way things are, the ache lifts.

The One is the Giver of peace, and everything unfolds within that same care.

Nanak says: know this well, whatever happens is moving according to the One's will.

The ache of forgetting is healed the moment you flow with what is.
The deeper layer

A shalok of the Third Mehl. Forgetting to serve brings an ache, and accepting the Hukam heals it. Peace and hardship both come from the same One, the Giver of peace, and everything unfolds within that will.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you accept the things you cannot change?
