No Pain Reaches the One Who Hungers for You

pa-orhee.
Pauree:
jis jan tayree bhukh hai tis dukh na vi-aapai.
No pain afflicts that humble being who hungers for You, Lord.
jin jan gurmukh bujhi-aa so chahu kundee jaapai.
That humble Gurmukh who understands, is celebrated in the four directions.
jo nar us kee sarnee parai tis kambeh paapai.
Sins run away from that man, who seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord.
janam janam kee mal utrai gur Dhoorhee naapai.
The filth of countless incarnations is washed away, bathing in the dust of the Guru's feet.
jin har bhaanaa mani-aa tis sog na santaapai.
Whoever submits to the Lord's Will does not suffer in sorrow.
har jee-o too sabhnaa kaa mit hai sabh jaaneh aapai.
O Dear Lord, You are the friend of all; all believe that You are theirs.
aisee sobhaa janai kee jayvad har partaapai.
The glory of the Lord's humble servant is as great as the Glorious Radiance of the Lord.
sabh antar jan vartaa-i-aa har jan tay jaapai. ||8||
Among all, His humble servant is pre-eminent; through His humble servant, the Lord is known. ||8||

In plain words

No hurt can settle on the heart that hungers for You.

The one who understands is honored all around, and old troubles simply run off, washed away in the humble dust of the Guru's feet.

You are the friend of all, and everyone feels You are their own; through Your humble servant, the whole world comes to know You.

A heart hungry for the One gives pain nowhere to land.
The deeper layer

A servant of the One, so filled with the One that pain finds no place to land, shines in all four directions. The 'dust of the Guru's feet' is an image of humility, the willingness to be low and teachable. The Lord is known through such humble ones.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone humble whose example teaches you a lot?
