Verse 37 of 92

Wake to the Beloved While You Can

dakh-nay mehlaa 5.
Dakhanay, Fifth Mehl:
jaa chhutay taa khaak too sunjee kant na jaanhee.
When the soul leaves, you shall become dust, O vacant body; why do you not realize your Husband Lord?
durjan saytee nayhu too kai gun har rang maanhee. ||1||
You are in love with evil people; by what virtues will you enjoy the Lord's Love? ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

This body is only borrowed, here for a little while — so why not turn toward the One who loves you?

If your heart keeps chasing what is empty, how will it ever taste the One's love?

This life is borrowed — a good reason to love well while you have it.
The deeper layer

A Dakhanay shalok on making the most of a borrowed life. The body is on loan, here for a while; the gentle invitation is to wake to the Beloved now.

A Question to Sit With

What matters most to you that you do not want to put off?
