The One Who Takes Care of You

mehlaa 5.
Fifth Mehl:
naanak jis bin gharhee na jeevnaa visray sarai na bind.
O Nanak, without Him, you cannot survive, even for an instant; you cannot afford to forget Him, even for a moment.
tis si-o ki-o man roosee-ai jisahi hamaaree chind. ||2||
Why are you alienated from Him, O my mind? He takes care of you. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Nanak says, you cannot get through even a moment cut off from the One.

So why keep your distance, my mind? The One is already taking care of you.

You are already being taken care of — you can stop bracing.
The deeper layer

Spoken to one's own mind with kindness. The teaching is reassurance, not scolding: you are already held, so stop holding yourself apart.

A Question to Sit With

When do you forget that you are being looked after?
