Aim at What Will Not Pass Away

ਡਖਣੇ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Dakhanay, Fifth Mehl:
ਸੋ ਨਿਵਾਹੂ ਗਡਿ ਜੋ ਚਲਾਊ ਨ ਥੀਐ ॥
so nivaahoo gad jo chalaa-oo na thee-ai.
Focus on that which will not pass away.
ਕਾਰ ਕੂੜਾਵੀ ਛਡਿ ਸੰਮਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਧਣੀ ॥੧॥
kaar koorhaavee chhad sammal sach Dhanee. ||1||
Abandon your false actions, and meditate on the True Master. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Set your heart on the one thing that will never slip away.

Let go of pretend actions, and hold the True One in mind.

Aim your heart at what will still be there tomorrow.
The deeper layer

A Dakhanay shalok, short and clear. Among everything that fades, aim your love at what lasts. 'False actions' are the hollow, for-show ones — the invitation is toward what is true.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing in your life you hope never changes?
