Grace Turns the Heart

Whatever I am attached to, to that I am attached; such are the deeds I do.

When the Dear Lord grants His Grace, then I am merged in the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||3||

In plain words

Whatever I am joined to, that is what I hold on to, and those are the deeds I do.

When the Dear One gives grace, I merge into the Word of the Guru.

Your attention shapes your life; grace turns it toward the Guru's Word.
The deeper layer

Our attention shapes what we do, and grace turns our attention.

Jit ham laa-ay tit hee laagay — wherever we are placed, there we stick. Taisay karam kamaavhigay — and those are the deeds we do. Think of a phone. Whatever app is open, that is where your time goes.

The turn does not come from pushing harder. Har jee kirpaa karay — when the Dear One gives grace, attention settles on gur kay sabad. That means the Word of the Guru, the teaching.

Grace is received, not earned. It gently turns the heart, the way a friend might tap your shoulder and point you toward the sunset.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing your attention keeps returning to, and is it something you want to grow?
