Alive in a New Way

ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਹੁ ਮਰਹੁ ਫੁਨਿ ਜੀਵਹੁ ਪੁਨਰਪਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
jeevat marahu marahu fun jeevhu punrap janam na ho-ee.
Die while yet alive, and by so dying, be alive; thus you shall not be reborn again.
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੋ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਨੇ ਸੁੰਨ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਸੋਈ ॥੪॥੪॥
kaho kabeer jo naam samaanay sunn rahi-aa liv so-ee. ||4||4||
Says Kabir, whoever is absorbed in the Naam remains lovingly absorbed in the Primal, Absolute Lord. ||4||4||

In plain words

While you are alive, let the grabbing, me-first self go quiet. Let it go, and you come alive, and you will not have to be born again and again.

Kabir says: whoever is soaked in the Naam stays lovingly held in the deep stillness of the One.

Let the grasping self grow quiet, and a truer aliveness wakes up.
The deeper layer

Let the small, grabbing self grow quiet, so a new kind of life can wake up.

Jeevat marahu marahu fun jeevhu — die while alive, and by that dying, live. This is not about real death at all. It is about the me-first self letting go. Think of a seed. The hard shell has to crack open before the green shoot can come out. The seed is not lost. It becomes a plant.

Punrap janam na ho-ee — then there is no coming round again, no more going in circles.

Kaho kabeer jo naam samaanay — Kabir says, whoever is soaked in the Name sunn rahi-aa liv so-ee — stays lovingly held in the deep stillness at the center of everything. That is a fully awake kind of rest.

A Question to Sit With

What part of you feels most alive when you stop trying so hard to control everything?
