Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Where will You carry me, to set me free?

Where is this freedom, and what kind will You give me? By Your grace, I already have it.

Grace has already placed freedom right here.
The deeper layer

Where would the One carry you to set you free? By grace, the freedom is already yours.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the song. Raam mo ka-o taar kahaaN lai ja-ee hai: God, where will You take me to save me? Taar means to carry across, like a boat carrying someone over a river.

Kabir asks where that freedom is, and what kind it is. Then he answers himself: kar parsaad mohi paa-ee hai. By Your grace, I already have it.

The idea of being rescued and taken somewhere else melts away. Freedom is not a trip to another place. It is like hunting for your house key and finding it already in your hand. You simply notice what is already true.

A Question to Sit With

What is something good you already have that you sometimes search for as if it were missing?
