Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Why don't you sing the Naam of the One with your tongue — Har, Har, Har?

Set aside all the other clever words.

One loving Name goes further than all the clever arguments.
The deeper layer

Sing the Naam, and let the clever words go.

This is the "pause" line, the rahao, the center of the shabad.

Har har har na japas rasnaa — why doesn't your tongue sing the Name? With all those treasures sitting in the One's hand, the tongue is invited to sing.

Avar sabh chhaad bachan rachnaa — set aside all other word-games. This is not a rejection of learning. It means one loving Name goes further than clever arguments. Think of a baby saying "Mama." It is one word, but it carries more love than a long speech.

Singing the Name is a joyful thing here, a song the tongue gets to sing again and again.

A Question to Sit With

When do words get in the way of what you mean?
