There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.
When I remember the Name, I am walking the same path that quiet, wise people have always walked.
People who once had nothing found a Friend who filled their hands. The Name loves the ones who love it, and it holds anyone who turns toward it.
The Naam has carried many kinds of people home, and it can carry you too.
These words are from Guru Ram Das, the fourth Guru. They open with Ik Oankaar, Satgur Parsaad: "One Creator, known by the True Guru's grace." That is the opening blessing placed at the start of a new set of songs.
Then the verse names people from old stories. Suk and Janak were wise and thoughtful people. Janak was even a king. Sudama was very poor, a childhood friend of Krishna. When he came to visit, his need was met and his poverty was taken away.
What joined them all was bhagti, loving devotion. That love carried each of them across.
Think of a big family photo. Grandparents, cousins, babies, the rich uncle and the one who just lost his job. Different lives, one family. The Name is like that. Wise ones, kings and the very poor all belong.
The One is bhagat vachhal, "the One who loves those who love." Love for the One is always met by love.
Who is someone you admire for the quiet, steady way they live?
