In plain words

O my mind, saying the Naam, you are lifted up and carried across.

Dhroo, Prahlaad and Bidar, the servant woman's son, turned to the Guru and crossed over through the Naam.

Remembering lifts you, and it lifts everyone, whatever their background.
The deeper layer

The path of the Naam is open to everyone.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line. It is the center of the whole shabad, the line everything else turns around.

Mayray man naam japat uDhray: "O my mind, remembering the Name, you are lifted up and saved."

Then come three names from old stories. Dhroo was a little boy who prayed with his whole heart. Prahlaad was another boy who stayed true to the One. Bidar was the son of a servant woman, someone the world looked down on. All of them crossed over by holding the Name.

Think of a school bus that stops at every house on the street. The big house, the small apartment, the farm at the end of the road. Everyone gets a seat.

That is the point. Age does not matter. Where you were born does not matter. The path is open to all.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you remember something that matters when your mind is busy?
