Why Carry Pride That Cannot Stay

ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਰਸਹਿ ਮਾਣਾ ॥
moorakh man kaahay karseh maanaa.
O foolish mind, why are you so proud?
ਉਠਿ ਚਲਣਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਭਾਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
uth chalnaa khasmai bhaanaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You shall have to arise and depart when it pleases your Lord and Master. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O my foolish mind, why are you so proud?

When the Master wills it, you will rise and move on.

Knowing your time is precious is a reason to be grateful, not afraid.
The deeper layer

Uth chalnaa, to arise and go, is the natural close of a visit, a moving-on. Knowing the visit is short makes today more precious and pride less worth carrying.

A Question to Sit With

What would you treasure more if you remembered it would not last forever?
