Verse 5 of 5

Reach Out and Hold Me

ਕਵਨ ਪਰਾਧ ਬਤਾਵਉ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨਾਰੇ ॥
kavan paraaDh bataava-o apunay mithi-aa moh magnaaray.
What sins of mine should I speak of? I am intoxicated with false emotional attachment.
ਆਇਓ ਸਾਮ ਨਾਨਕ ਓਟ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਲੀਜੈ ਭੁਜਾ ਪਸਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੨॥
aa-i-o saam naanak ot har kee leejai bhujaa pasaaray. ||4||2||
Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Lord; please, reach out and take me into Your embrace. ||4||2||

In plain words

What could I even name of my own missteps? I got lost in things that do not last.

Nanak says: I have come to Your shelter - please reach out Your arms and take me in.

When you feel you have lost your way, you can simply ask to be held.
The deeper layer

What mistakes could I even list? I got lost in things that do not last.

Kavan paraadh bataava-o — which of my wrongs should I even name? Mithi-aa moh magnaaray — I was carried away by moh, clinging to passing things. This is gentle and honest. It is not being harsh on oneself.

Aa-i-o saam naanak ot har kee — Nanak has come to the One's shelter. Leejai bhujaa pasaaray — please stretch out Your arms and take me in. Think of a child who was lost for a moment and runs into a parent's open arms.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel welcomed back after a mistake?
