Some are hypocrites; they do not merge with the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Some are absorbed in the Feet of the Lord, Har, Har.
poorab likhi-aa paavas naanak rasnaa naam jap ray. ||5||4||
The mortals obtain what they are predestined to receive; O Nanak, with your tongue, chant the Naam. ||5||4||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Some people stay on the surface, saying the words but not letting them touch the heart.
Others dive all the way in, resting close and glad at the One's feet.
Each receives what was written for them. Nanak says: let your tongue say the Naam.
You can always choose to dive in, whatever surface you started on.
Paakhandee are those who only perform; others are absorbed at the One's feet. The way forward is naam jap, letting the Naam live on the tongue and in the heart. Practice is always available, whatever came before.
A Question to Sit With
What is something you have done on the surface that you would like to mean with your whole heart?
