The merits of the sixty-eight places of pilgrimage are found in God's Name, O Nanak, when such destiny is inscribed upon one's forehead. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Countless people who felt far away have been made new the moment they came close and bowed.
Nanak says: all the good of a thousand faraway pilgrimages is already here, held inside the Naam.
You do not have to travel to find it; the treasure is as near as your own heart.
The holiest place is not far away; it is as near as your own heart.
Athsath tirath, the sixty-eight holy places of pilgrimage, are gathered into the Naam itself: the sacred is not somewhere far but here, within. And no one is beyond renewal; patit puneet, the fallen made pure, is a promise of welcome, not a label of shame.
A Question to Sit With
Where do you feel something sacred, close to home?
