Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Friends, come close and set down the heaviness of pride for a moment.

There is one joyful story worth hearing above all others.

It is the story of the Beloved One, who is nearer to you than you know.

Pride is heavy; setting it down lets the good news in.
The deeper layer

The soul is addressed as one of a circle of friends (sakhee), gently teased for pride (garab). The one joyous story (ik baat suhaylee) is the good news of the Beloved's nearness. Pride is simply what we set down to hear it.

A Question to Sit With

What good news feels easier to hear when you are not trying to look impressive?
