Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.
The One made everything there is. The One made the days and the nights,
the forests and meadows and waters, the whole wide sky.
The One made the wisdom-books and every kind of living creature, every land and every world. All of it sprang from a single Word of the One.
Everything there is came from one Word of the One.
The verse walks through creation like a list. The One made the days and the nights. The One made the forests, the meadows, the water and the three worlds. The One made the four Vedas, the old holy books of India. The One made the four ways living things are born. Every country, every land and every world is here too.
Then the list ends in one short line. Ayk kavaavai tay sabh ho-aa — "All of it came from one Word." The Vedas are named with respect, as part of the whole creation.
Think of a single seed. From it come roots, trunk, branches, leaves and fruit. One small thing holds a whole tree. In the same way, the whole wide world rests on one Word.
What in nature fills you with wonder at how it all began?
