Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 5
Verse 5 of 6

You, Wise and Near, and Glad to Serve

ਤੂ ਦਾਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
too daanaa saahib sir mayraa.
You are my wise Lord and Master, above my head.
ਖਿਜਮਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਜਨੁ ਬੰਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ॥੩॥
khijmat karee jan bandaa tayraa. ||3||
I serve You as Your humble slave. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are wise and watchful, a steady presence right over me like shade over my head.

And I am glad to be Yours, offering my small service with love.

To belong to You and help in Your work, that is enough for me.

Being useful to what you love is its own kind of happiness.
The deeper layer

The relationship shifts from ache to trust: the One is daanaa saahib, the wise Master, close as shade overhead. Serving (khijmat) is not servitude but glad belonging, the joy of being useful to something you love. Service is love in motion.

A Question to Sit With

Whom do you feel glad to help, just because you care about them?
