A Boat on a Wide, Wide Sea

maaroo mehlaa 1.
Maaroo, First Mehl:
bikh bohithaa laadi-aa dee-aa samund manjhaar.
The boat is loaded with sin and corruption, and launched into the sea.
kanDhee dis na aavee naa urvaar na paar.
The shore cannot be seen on this side, nor on the shore beyond.
vanjhee haath na khayvtoo jal saagar asraal. ||1||
There are no oars, nor any boatmen, to cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||

In plain words

Sometimes life feels like a little boat pushed out onto a huge sea, with no shore in sight and no oars in hand.

It could feel scary, but the very next breath brings the answer: there is Someone who can carry me across. I am not left adrift.

Even far from shore, you are not left without a way across.
The deeper layer

The bhavjal, the world-ocean, is wide, with no shore in sight. The oarless boat is a life steered by ego alone, and the crossing comes by grace, the answer that follows at once in the rahao.

A Question to Sit With

Who helps you feel safe when a situation feels too big?
