maaroo mehlaa 1.
Maaroo, First Mehl:
saachee kaar kamaavnee hor laalach baad.
Practice Truth - other greed and attachments are useless.
ih man saachai mohi-aa jihvaa sach saad.
The True Lord has fascinated this mind, and my tongue enjoys the taste of Truth.
bin naavai ko ras nahee hor chaleh bikh laad. ||1||
Without the Name, there is no juice; the others depart, loaded with poison. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
When I live what is true, the pull of grabbing and wanting more just fades away.
The One has charmed my heart, and truth tastes sweet on my tongue. Without the Name, nothing has real flavor; the rest is heavy and empty.
Living what is true has a sweetness that grabbing never gives.
Saachee kaar, true living, is set above laalach, greed. The tongue tasting Truth is sach saad. Bin naavai ko ras nahee: without the Name there is no real savor. The rest go on their way loaded with poison: heavy and empty.
A Question to Sit With
When has doing the honest thing felt good all on its own?
