Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 65
Verse 4 of 9

The One Who Reunites the Separated

ਲਾਲਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਧਣੀ ਕੋ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਉ ਵਡਿਆਈਐ ॥
laalaa golaa Dhanee ko ki-aa kaha-o vadi-aa-ee-ai.
I am the servant and slave of my Master; what glorious greatness of His can I describe?
ਭਾਣੈ ਬਖਸੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਧਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥
bhaanai bakhsay pooraa Dhanee sach kaar kamaa-ee-ai.
The Perfect Master, by the Pleasure of His Will, forgives, and then one practices Truth.
ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਕਉ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
vichhurhi-aa ka-o mayl la-ay gur ka-o bal jaa-ee-ai. ||3||
I am a sacrifice to my Guru, who re-unites the separated ones. ||3||

In plain words

I belong to the One, and how could I ever describe how wonderful He is?

By His own kindness He wipes the slate clean, and then true living becomes possible. I give my whole self in thanks to the Guru, who brings back together everyone who felt apart.

Grace wipes the slate clean and brings the separated back together.
The deeper layer

Bhaanai bakhse, forgiving by His own pleasure, is grace freely given that makes true living possible. Vichhurriaa ko mel la-e: the Guru reunites the separated, healing the ache of separation. Bal jaaee-ai is loving self-offering, not degradation.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever felt the relief of being brought back together with someone?
