Verse 2 of 9

Safe in the Shelter

ਲਾਲਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
laalaa golaa khasam kaa khasmai vadi-aa-ee.
I am the slave and servant of my Lord and Master; all glory is to my Master.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaadee ubray har kee sarnaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By Guru's Grace, I am saved, in the Sanctuary of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I am my Master's own, heart and hands, and all the glory belongs to my Master.

By the Guru's grace I am saved, safe in the shelter of the One.

All the glory is the One's, and the Guru's grace keeps you safe.
The deeper layer

The rahao. Khasmai vadi-aa-ee: all greatness belongs to the Beloved. Gur parsaadee ubray har kee sarnaaee: saved in the Sanctuary by grace. Belonging here is loving refuge.

A Question to Sit With
