Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 66
Verse 4 of 9

When You Draw Me, I Serve

aap sachaa sabh sach hai gur sabad bujhaa-ee.
He Himself is True, and everything is True; this is revealed through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
tayree sayvaa so karay jis no laihi too laa-ee.
He alone serves You, whom You have enjoined to do so.
bin sayvaa kinai na paa-i-aa doojai bharam khu-aa-ee. ||3||
Without serving Him, no one finds Him; in duality and doubt, they are ruined. ||3||

In plain words

The One is true, and everything true shines out from that One: the Guru's Word shows me this.

I can only help and serve when You gently draw me to it. Pulled two ways, a person just gets lost; steadied in the One, they find their way.

Even the wish to serve is a gift; let it draw you.
The deeper layer

Aap sachaa sabh sach: the One is real and all reality flows from it. Teree sevaa so karay jis no laihi tu laa-ee: even the capacity to serve is grace-given. Doojai bharam, duality and doubt, leads astray. Service is grace, not achievement.

A Question to Sit With

What is something good you do that feels like it was drawn out of you?
