Maaroo, First Mehl:
ਨਾ ਭੈਣਾ ਭਰਜਾਈਆ ਨਾ ਸੇ ਸਸੁੜੀਆਹ ॥
naa bhainaa bharjaa-ee-aa naa say sasurhee-aah.
Neither the sisters, nor the sisters-in-law, nor the mothers-in-law, shall remain.

sachaa saak na tut-ee gur maylay sahee-aas. ||1||
The true relationship with the Lord cannot be broken; it was established by the Lord, O sister soul-brides. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

All the people around us come for a while and then move on; that is just how life flows.

But there is one bond that time cannot untie: the tie between you and the One. That connection was made to last.

Everything comes and goes, except the bond between you and the One.
The deeper layer

Even our closest kin — sisters, sisters-in-law, elders — do not remain forever, and one bond holds through it all.

Set against this is the sachaa saak, the true relationship with the One, which na tut-ee, cannot be broken, because it was gur maylay, joined by the Guru. The verse does not grieve; it points past what passes to the one bond that holds.

A Question to Sit With

What is a connection in your life that you hope lasts no matter what?
